Spec rifle until you have full auto, spec conjuring until you get the requirements for haste 4, pump quickness (for accuracy), buy hellfire barrier. This was only possible because I imported my character from DMS.īut yes. I've just tried out the APEX fight with a shaman build with 7 strength and 8 rifle and the minigun and my shaman would clean the easier top half on its own, while I had the three other characters on bottom. You won't regret it.ĭont do drugs, m'kay? Not even for AP. Roll shaman and you get a hasting/healing/dps-leading/summoning (kinda)/tactical utility spell main character with high charisma for story options. Could be fun, but I like the utility of rifle with the option to use a sniper. Is it even possible for a single character to do more ranged damage? Even if you SMG, with 6AP that's a maximum of 12 attacks versus rifle's 15. A main character with 6+ AP allows for 3 full-auto attacks in a single turn. Personally, I get rifle up to full automatic and put the rest of my combat karma into boosting chance to hit. Proper use of these tactics (with aoe heal for randomness) allowed me to reach the final fight in dragonfall having sustained exactly 0 damage in VH. Shaman has a couple other essential spells like the Slo-Mo debuff which will stop bosses cold. With your shaman's last two AP, throw down a shadow and *poof*, your enemies run around aimlessly and you get the next turn to clean-up or run for cover. Charge your hasted squad into a room full of enemies and take advantage of the close range chance to hit. Shadow creates a 1 turn invulnerability aoe. You can often get an entire squad of enemies to lose all their AP this way, while you mop up after. Shadowrun has tons of bottlenecks, especially doors, and if you lure the AI through your lightning barrier you have pretty much won the engagement. Regardless, it's nice to take advantage of the random summon points for a bullet sponge.īefore I get to guns, shaman has two spells that really seal the deal- lightning barrier and shadow. High level summons are quite strong however, so if you do character imports and get the karma your end-game combat/summon shaman will absolutely stomp.

I choose bear/great mother for the aoe wound heal because 1, it's good, and 2, you no longer need to bring support runners like Dietrich and can just bring more guns. Unfortunately, to get conjuring to 8 and a weapon to a high enough level to take advantage of your high AP you have to ignore summoning since there isn't enough karma to go around. If used entirely on dragonfall's main character with a Jazz & cram, you have something like 9 AP which is just crazy.

A buffing turn prior to the fight that uses Haste IV, Haste III and the free adrenal augment gives your team +4 AP where you need it most. This really takes off in the late game when 8 levels of conjuring gives you access to the +2 AP haste spell. In the early game, +1 AP is significant from a dps (damage-per-turn?) perspective and opens up tactics like the 3 AP position -> fire -> hide. One of the main reasons to roll Shaman is for the haste spell.

But if you're into min/maxing and opening up new playstyles through utility, take a second look at the shaman. Obviously Shadowfall should be played how you like, so if you want a chromed out troll with a big axe or drone-totting decker in your own image, go for it. This was an immense advantage as long as I made sure to keep my guys away, the spirits reliably attacked/distracted my enemies.Surprisingly, shaman is the best and most fun combat class. This left me free to summon another spirit, while the rogue spirits lashed out at whoever was nearest. I didn't so much notice the lack of a heal spell, 'cause I chose Bear totem, which is an AOE heal.Īlso cool: In the final battle, I lost control of my spirits twice. You summon a spirit, and then the -spirit- casts all the cool spells. It's true that the shaman doesn't get as many cool spells as the mage, but you gotta remember the shaman does all his magic -through- spirits. I even tricked some guys into running through my lightning barrier a couple times, by clogging doorways with it out of their line of sight so they'd run in to get me and end up passing through two or three lightning-filled spaces, losing 7 HP per space. Being able to plant cover wherever I wanted it was cool and helpful too. It went great! The beefy spirits I'd summon were even deadlier than my hired runners, and they came with great buffs for the rest of the party as well. I played a summon-focused shaman, with a little conjuring, and just enough rifle to defend myself.
